Wakulla High School’s varsity softball team stole the lead late in the Regional Quarterfinal game vs. Yulee High School on Wednesday, May 5.
The game was tied at two with Wakulla hitting in the top of the seventh when Riley Davis singled on a 1-1 count to score Victoria Dichio. Freshman Kaylee Walker gave more run support after a two-run double scoring Freshman Jenna Cross and Senior Brooklyn O’Neal. This was after WHS allowed Yulee to score in the first and fourth innings on a sacrifice fly and a run walked in (Butler).
Wakulla evened the game up in the top of the fifth when O’Neal singled to score Davis. Dichio scored on a passed ball the play before.
Wakulla had 11 hits in the game. Davis, O’Neal, and Dichio all managed multiple hits. Davis led the War Eagles with three.
The War Eagles were solid on defense behind Freshman Charley Butler and Senior Victoria Dichio with zero errors in the game. Butler started the game lasting four innings, allowing four hits and two runs, striking out nine. Dichio got the win for Wakulla, giving up zero runs on zero hits, striking out three after entering the game in the fifth inning.
Wakulla was set to host 8-seed Clay County High School (Green Cove Springs) at 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 17.
