Wakulla County TDC meets Thursday, May 12

The Wakulla County Tourist Development Council (TDC) will have a special public meeting at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 12, at the Wakulla Welcome Center, 1505 Coastal Highway, Panacea. For information, call 850-926-0919 Ext. 713.

The meeting is to discuss interest in forming an advisory committee for a TDC-sponsored special event and any other general business of the TDC.

Apalachee Regional Planning Council meets May 18

The Apalachee Regional Planning Council, on behalf of the Wakulla County Board of County Commissioners and the Wakulla County Division of Emergency Management, is holding two public meetings on the following dates.

The first starts at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 18, at the Wakulla County Community Center in the Crawfordville Room, 318 Shadeville Road, Crawfordville. For information, call 850-926-3695.

The second meeting starts at 6:30 p.m. Monday, May 23, in the Panacea Community Center, 115 Otter Lake Road, Panacea. For information, call 850-926-7227.

The purpose of the meetings is to encourage feedback and participation from county residents for the development of a countywide Shelter Plan that would identify additional sheltering facilities to close the gap in the number of shelter spaces available and determine the needs of existing shelters to decrease the probability of loss of life and property and provide guidance and/or services to individuals who require special accommodation during a natural disaster or other emergency events.

Road work continues

Drivers will encounter traffic disruptions in the area as crews perform construction and maintenance activities.

U.S. 98 Coastal Highway Bike Path: Motorists may encounter intermittent lane closures between Tower Road and Chattahoochee Street, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Friday, May 13. The westbound lane will be closed to allow the contractor to construct the boardwalk.

All planned construction activities are weather-dependent and may be delayed or rescheduled in the event of inclement weather. Motorists are reminded to pay attention to the speed limit when traveling through the construction area, to watch for construction equipment entering and leaving the roadway, and to use caution when driving through the work zone. Speeding fines double when workers are present
