Crawfordville native to compete in Miss Florida

Crawfordville native Tia Unsell is crowned Miss Wekiva in November 2021.

Tia Unsell, 23, of Crawfordville, will be competing June 22 to 25 at the 86th Miss Florida Scholarship Competition in Lakeland.

Currently, Unsell holds the title of Miss Wekiva Springs and was crowned the first ever back in November of 2021.

She will be competing in four mandatory phases of competition: Private Interview, Social Impact Pitch/On Stage Question, Red Carpet Wear, and Talent. Unsell’s social impact initiative is Dancers Against Cancer, a nonprofit organization that provides financial assistance to dancers, dance educators and their families battling cancer. Her talent is a lyrical dance to “Listen” by Beyoncé.

The winner of the Miss Florida Scholarship Competition will go on to compete at Miss America in Connecticut later on this year. The Miss America Organization is the largest provider of scholarships for young women.

Unsell is a 2017 graduate of Wakulla High School and currently attends Florida State University majoring in Communication Sciences & Disorders to become a Speech Language Pathologist. She is also a recreational and competitive dance teacher at Studio 88 Dance Productions in Crawfordville.
