School orientations give students and parents an opportunity to become accustomed to their new or returning school before the school year starts.

These special “meet and greets” also offer advance notice of class schedules, bell times, teacher assignments, bus routes and stop times, extra-curricular activities, and other school-related events.

New students, especially kindergarten-aged children, are encouraged to register now for school to avoid long lines on Wednesday, Aug. 10, the first day of class for students in Marion County Public Schools.

Families are encouraged to ensure their contact information is correct during these orientations, which will take place Aug. 8, and to sign up for free online Family Access at each school, giving them 24/7 access to student grades, attendance, academic, and additional information on any mobile device.

Dunnellon Elementary School is hosting orientation at 9 a.m.

Romeo Elementary is dividing up its orientations on Aug. 8, with VPK through second-grade students at 12:30 p.m., and grades three through five at 1:45 p.m.

Dunnellon Middle School’s orientation is at 5 p.m. on Aug. 8.

Dunnellon High will hold its orientation at 5:30 p.m.

Free meals for all students

Free school breakfasts and lunches will be available to all students and all Dunnellon area schools. The free meals are provided regardless of family income at all schools in the district. at 52 school sites for the upcoming school year.

The program is provided in partnership with the Community Eligibility Provision initiative and is funded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

No application is required to participate.
