Marion County Animal Services continue to be inspired by the #Betty WhiteChallenge. Betty White, who passed at the age of 99, was not just a wonderful actress and on-screen personality, but a huge advocate for animals and their wellbeing.

In honor of Betty White and her contribution to animal adoption, Marion County Animal Services holds the #BettyWhiteChallenge every January in her name.

“Betty White was a great animal lover and we appreciate her kindness and the legacy that she left behind,” said Jim Sweet, director of Animal Services. “Her legacy is something that we want to honor. We will continue to make January an annual event in honor of Betty White. We think it is a great way to honor a great lady with a wonderful legacy!”

This month, you can adopt a pet at Marion County Animal Services by donating what you can for adoption fees. These adoption funds will go directly to the improvement, wellbeing, and quality of life for our animals at the no-kill Marion County Animal Center.

Wendy Hillyard, Animal Services Program Specialist says, “Since the start of the #BettyWhiteChallenge, we’ve seen more interest in ways to help our shelter, including donations, adoptions, and those seeking to volunteer. Betty White was clearly an inspiration to those who believe in helping homeless pets, which is a gift to those of us working in the animal welfare field.”

Since beginning the challenge in January 2022, there has been an influx of adoptions and monetary donations accepted toward the cause. This rush to help has helped provide a better future for so many animals and Marion County Animal Services.

Please remember that if adoption is not an option, then there are other ways to help. Donations are being accepted and help improve the lives of all animals within our animal center. You can donate in person, online at MarionFl.org/Animal, or mail your donation to 5701 SE 66th St., Ocala.
