Oak Run Democratic Club (ORDC)

June continues to be a busy time for the ORDC. The group members participated in the Anti-Gun Violence rally in downtown Ocala. On June 16, the group’s normal monthly business meeting was canceled so that members could attend a 4 p.m. speech by Nikki Fried, Democratic contender for Florida Governor.

To round out the month of June, the ORDC will have a Social Luncheon at the Oak Run restaurant’s outdoor pavilion. The date and time for this are June 29 at noon. Because this is a social activity, no formal agenda will be followed. The intent is to provide the opportunity for like-minded progressives to meet and enjoy the camaraderie.

For more info, contact the ORDC’s president, Linda Chitwood at linda chitwood1@gmail.com or Gary Greene. The next business meeting will be 7 p.m. July 21 at the Orchid Club.

Republican Club at Oak Run

Our June meeting will be on Wednesday, June 29, from 2:00-3:30 p.m. at the Palm Grove Auditorium in Oak Run.

Our keynote speaker is Kathy Bryant, incumbent County Commissioner running for re-election in District 2. There are several candidates running for Marion County School Board District which have not been confirmed. Additionally, we will discuss School Board issues. All speakers will have tables where you can meet and greet the candidates as well as pick up literature at the end of the meeting.

Join us and be informed before you vote in the Aug. 23 Primary Election, and then in the Nov. 8 General Election.

In addition, we will have a 50/50 cash drawing and refreshments at this meeting. Any members who are delinquent in paying membership dues of $7/person can bring their accounts up to date when you arrive for the meeting.

Since we are a gated community, only member residents can invite outside guests to the meeting. If you have any questions, contact Peter Fraleigh at 845-867-6262.

ACOR is relocating

Since we have received news that the Island Club will quite possibly remain closed for the next few months, the Arts Club of Oak Run (ACOR) has been able to schedule in spaces still available where we could at the Palm Grove facility. We shall meet there on the following days and times this month. Please note that the Wednesday sessions are an hour longer than the Tuesday Sessions. The next session is Tuesday, June 21, from 10 a.m. to 12 noon.

We are working on scheduling dates for July, but need to wait to see what is available. We are currently considering what activities will be occurring during those times.

If you are new to Oak Run and would like to join us, contact Dori Sullivan at billdori@embarqmail.com

Please let Dori know if you are planning to attend. It will help if we have as many members as possible to attend and share their views on possible activities for the other dates available.

The Oak Run Acoustic Jam Club continues to meet each Thursday afternoon, 3-5 PM, at Oak Run’s Orchid Club. The format of most sessions is working with a 10-song group, as agreed to by the Club, for one hour and allowing open play during the second hour.

During the open session, each member can play solo or ask for accompaniment from other attendees.

The fourth session of each month is an open session, the only time where each member can explore their own selections.

The group welcomes all Oak Run musicians and vocalists. Whether you play a guitar, banjo, drum, bass, or other acoustic instrument, you are welcome. For more information contact Irv Becker at irv.becker@att.net.
