WILLISTON — A Williston man is behind bars after he allegedly assaulted a woman he was trying to scam through an online chat.

According to a news release by Levy County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Scott Tummond, 48-year-old Travis Dallas is being charged with felony battery, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, false imprisonment and felony battery-repeat offender.

Tummond said detectives with the LCSO responded to an area hospital on Feb. 6 after receiving a call about a female who had been admitted with several injuries related to an assault. Investigators interviewed the victim and found that she talked with and later met Dallas via an online chat.

“Dallas was attempting to scam the victim during these chat sessions,” Tummond said in the news release.

The two met up at a location in Williston in mid-January. Tummond said Dallas refused to let the woman leave and “physically battered” her “over a period of time.”

“He used a knife to threaten her and struck her with a cinder block in his attempts to obtain more money from her,” Tummond said in the news release. “As a result of these injuries, the victim has been hospitalized and undergone surgery.”

On Feb. 10, Dallas was found and arrested for three different warrants that were acquired during the investigation, according to Tummond. He is being held in the Levy County Detention Center in lieu of a $200,000 bond.
