WILLISTON — The 33rd annual Central Florida Peanut Festival is right around the corner. And Langan Acres in Williston is adding a peanut-themed competition to go along with the festival, which is set for Saturday, Oct. 1.
The business is sponsoring a Boiled Peanut Contest as part of a fundraiser to benefit the Williston Area Chamber of Commerce. According to an information sheet the Levy Citizen received, the competition will take place the same day as the annual Central Florida Peanut Festival at the north gazebo (and surrounding area) at Heritage Park, 100 Block N. Main St.
Langan Acres is looking for 10 contestants. According to the information sheet, there is a $50 fee to enter, with half of the money going to the chamber and the other half going towards the winning pot. The winner has a chance to win up to $250.
According to the information sheet, cash, check or money orders are accepted and can be made payable to the Williston Area Chamber of Commerce. Credit cards are also accepted, but there will be a $3 convenience fee applied.
The public is also welcome to join in judging the peanuts, as well. According to the information sheet, the price is $5 per ticket to judge, with all of the money also going to the chamber. Cash and check will only be accepted.
According to the information sheet, voting for the Boiled Peanut Contest will end at noon, and all tickets must be in the voting boxes by this time to count as a vote. The winner of the competition will be announced onstage following the crowning of King and Queen Peanut. This person will also receive a trophy along with the prize money and have his or her picture taken & shared on the chamber’s Facebook page & Central Florida Peanut Festival Facebook page.
A picture and small write up about the contest will also be published in the Levy Citizen, according to information sheet. For more information on rules, requirements, etc. and to receive a registration form, email LanganAcres@gmail.com. The first 10 people to turn in both the filled out registration form and fee to the Williston Area Chamber of Commerce (P.O. Box 369 Williston, FL 32696, willistonflcoc@gmail.com) will be entered into the contest.
Once the form and fee is received, the chairman will contact contestants to verify registration, welcome them to the contest and answer any questions. The deadline to turn in the form and fee is Wednesday, Sept. 28.
