By the time you read this story and then come to the museum, you will be able to see the top winners of the Community Art Quilts from throughout the state of Florida. These will be on display through the end of November.

By the last week in November, we will be gearing up for the holidays and a new exhibition from the Museum of Florida History in Tallahassee titled, “Holiday Traditions in Florida,” which will be on display through the end of February.

The museum and the Inverness Cultural Heritage Council had their annual Elvis Concert with Peter Alden and the band the Corvairs on Saturday, Sept. 19, 2020. If you missed it, not to worry, for the nominal donation of $10, you still can go to the museum’s Facebook and view it from the comfort of your home at any time. Peter and his band are a great group of professional performers who knows how to do Elvis right.

This year, we will be doing the Holiday Trees Around the Square a little differently due to COVID-19, and the large crowds that we have always had at the museum in the past. However, the trees around the square and the lighting will be the same.

Every year, nonprofit organizations from throughout the county sponsor trees with 300 little white lights attached. Again, this year the tree lighting will occur at approximately 6:30 p.m.

Prior to that and on Saturday, Nov. 28, 2020, at 9 a.m. we will be setting up the trees around the square. So, if you have a couple of hours and would like to come out and get in the holiday spirit, call us at 352-341-6428 to sign up.

For over 25 years and before the passing of Citrus County Board Member Bob Roberts, this was a project of his, where he liked to gather the holiday elves as he called us, to begin the holiday season.

The city of Inverness will host Santa and other activities at the new Historic Depot on North Apopka, on the same date and time, so be sure and get out and visit both venues and make the most of the holiday celebrations.

The museum will be open on Friday, Dec. 4, from 5 to 8 p.m., so that visitors can come and check out the new exhibition on display. Based on current conditions, we will be recognizing the guidelines set forth by the health officials. And, depending on where we stand at that time, we may even have some special surprises in store.

Also, always check our website at www.cccourthouse.org or go to the Old Courthouse Heritage Museum Facebook page to keep up to date on museum news and more.

We have coming by the end of the year some new exciting digital interactive exhibitions on the history of our area, Florida and more.
