Lecanto senior Andrew Knighton waits his turn to putt on the second green Tuesday during the first round of the FHSAA Class 2A State Finals at Mission Inn & Resort at Howey-in-the-Hills. Knighton shot a 76 on the first day and an 85 Wednesday to finish tied for 33rd.

The season and a great four-year golfing career came to a close for Lecanto senior Andrew Knighton at the Class 2A FHSAA State Finals on Wednesday at Mission Inn & Resort at Howey-in-the-Hills.

Knighton, making his fourth appearance at the state meet — twice as a member of a state-qualifying team and twice as an individual — shot a 76 on Tuesday and an 85 on Wednesday for a two-day total of 161. That score was good enough to tie for 33rd place out of 96 golfers in the 2A field.

The Panther senior was tied for 12th and just three shots off the lead after the first day, but had a little more trouble on the tough El Campeon course on Wednesday.

Jason Duff of Menendez, one of the five golfers Knighton was tied with after Tuesday, shot an outstanding 69 on Wednesday to take the individual title by two strokes.
