Scott Grossenbacher sits in victory lane after narrowly edging out Jesse Veltman by 0.002 seconds in the Crockett’s Towing Ford Outlaw 25 Saturday night at Citrus County Speedway.

INVERNESS — Scott Grossenbacher narrowly edged Jesse Veltman to win the Crockett’s Towing Ford Outlaw 25 Saturday night at Citrus County Speedway.

The win, by a mere 0.002 seconds, was the closest of the 2021 season.

Grossenbacher started outside the second row and made his way to contend with early race leader Joey Caterelli by lap No. 15. Once there, Grossenbacher pressured Catarelli for the lead.

Ten laps later, Catarelli slid as he exited turn No. 4 and left the lane open for Grossenbacher to take the lead.

Catarelli regrouped and made a run for the lead with Brayden Boardman in the mix and Veltman watching the show in fourth.

Catarelli was able to hold off Boardman as the field took the five-laps-to-go signal, but Boardman made a dash and took second on the next lap. The pair continued to battle all the way to the white flag before making a last-lap effort for the win.

As the trio came around for the final turn Boardman tagged Grossenbacher from the rear and knocked him sideways as they came to the finish. The mayhem opened the door for Veltman to secure second at the line just ahead of Boardman and just 0.002 seconds behind the race winner. Boardman finished third, Caterelli fourth and Michael Autenrieth was fifth.

Jesse Veltman sits just 32 points ahead of last years’ Ford Outlaw Champion Thomas Peet — who finished Saturday’s race 10th — for the 2021 season title.

Official Results from the Pro Truck 50 are still pending the results from shock inspections from the top three finishers. Derek Pugh crossed the finish first to win the event over Carter Brown and Jimmy Frazier.

Sport Wilson topped the Signsfast Pure Stock 25 after taking the lead from Casey Rounds at the half-way point of the race. Larry Welter Jr. followed suit for second. Rounds finished third. Division points leader Jason Waller finished the race fourth overall and holds a 76 point advantage over Kleav Lewis, who pulled out of the event after just 12 laps. James Johnson was fifth.

Happy Florian walked away from a violent brush with the turn No. 3 wall, billboard area and scoreboard, after the throttle stuck on his No. 65 race car. Despite shutting down power to the car, Florian hit the wall at full speed and landed on the drivers’ door wedged between the wall, trees and poles on the backside of the racetrack.

Vicki Zavrel took the early Powder Puff lead but was no match for Brittany Wilson who drove off to a half-second advantage at the line. Zavrel followed Wilson to the line for second ahead of Kacee Lewis, Cheyenne Concidine and Christine Boardman, in that order.

Jarrett Wagman may have finished second in the Legend Cars Championship this season, but his performance over the last five races are proof of his abilities of becoming a champion in the future.

Wagman topped the Little Gator Motorsports 25 over Gavin Graham, Jackson Reynolds, points champion TJ DeCaire and Stephen Hartley. The win was his fifth in the last six events.

There have only been three winners in the series this season. Ashton Chilton took the first win, with Wagman (six wins) and DeCaire (five wins) taking their share of the remaining 11 races.

Shane Butler took the BG Southern Sprint Car Shootout Series 40 after being chased by Davey Hamilton to the finish. Butler was able to clear early race leader Johnny Gilberton and lead all but the first nine laps. Sport Allen came across the finish third, Troy DeCaire fourth, Mickey Kempgens fifth.

Due to time constraints the Ford Outlaw Race of Champions, a race specific to those who have won in the Ford Outlaw division this year, was unable to start.

Competitors in several divisions will have one final attempt at championship titles in several race divisions as the 2021 stock car season has been extended to one final race night.

Headlining the Dec. 11 race card is the $10,000-to-win Sportsman Fall Brawl, a grueling 200-lap event that is expected to draw the best Sportsman drivers across the state. Regular season action will include the Signsfast Pure Stock 25, Outlaw Street Stock 25 and Crockett’s Towing Ford Outlaw 25.
