Today we’ll put the winners of this week’s local and USTA league matches in the spotlight.

The Nature Coast Ladies League’s new season kicked off with matches on Monday morning and had a wet start for those who play their matches on hard courts. As a result, only two of the three scheduled matches — which took place on soft courts — were played. One team managed to win its match, one was a tie and one was cancelled.

Skyview Wonders defeated Skyview Blues, 3-2. The difference in this match was the one set the Skyview Wonders won in the second match-up. Joanie Kelsey/Ann Marie Simonelli (SKW) won, 6-0, 6-0; Jackie Pace/Sue Swain (SKB) won, 6-4, 4-6, 10-4.

In the USTA league the Skyview 6.5 Women’s 50+ Combo and Skyview 7.5 Women’s 50+ Combo team both had a win this week. The 6.5 team defeated Fort King, 2-1, and has a record of 2-4. Ann Marie Simonelli/Neil Marie Chaney lost, 6-2, 6-0; Judy Weber/Chris Jarzyna won, 6-1, 6-7, 1-0; Joan Kelsey/Doris Pritt won, 6-1, 6-4.

The 7.5 team defeated Fort King, 2-1 and has a record of 4-3 after this win. Pam Payne/Tana Hubbard won, 7-6, 7-5; Irma Buttermore/Ann Finnin won, 5-7, 6-3, 1-0; Linda Lademann/Kim Arcobello lost, 4-6, 6-2, 1-0.
