Rolling and running is the roughly translated name that is used for a new kind of tournament that is becoming more common, especially in the Netherlands where it originated. You might have guessed that this is a tennis tournament where wheelchair players participate with and against participants who can run. The wheelchair players are allowed to let the ball bounce twice, and the second bounce may be outside of the playing field. The runners just get one bounce (inside the lines).

It all started with combined doubles teams and from there it progressed to singles play, as well. If the wheelchair doubles players that we saw in Orlando are any indication, there won’t be many double bounces; there is so much power and speed involved. We talked to some of the players and we’re definitely going to try and watch, and maybe even play in one of those Rolling and Running tournaments in the summer of 2020.
