And here it is — the end of the local tennis league season.

The last champion of the 2018-19 season was crowned at the end of season Hawaiian-themed luncheon at Crump’s Landing in Homosassa, organized by the Sugarmill Oakies (see picture). After a hula lesson and a bean toss contest, the time had arrived to eat and announce the winner. The title for the

2018-19 season went to Sky Hi, captained by Linda Lademann and co-captained by Ellen Cupelli. The players on the team were Pat Bergerson, Henny David, Terry DeMartino, Ann Finnin, Becky Fisher, Geri Foster, Bonnie Harwin, Linda Johnson, Carmen Rosengarten, Ann Marie Simonelli and Michelle Tripp.

The final standings were as follows: Champion Ski Hi with 115 points; Skyview Advantage, 108; Bicentennial Babes, 93; Tennis Bratz, 87; Sugarmill Oakies, 75; Pine Ridge Fillies, 71.

Things are looking good for next season with the expansion of the Monday league with one team and the Tuesday league gaining two teams.

With the end of the season comes also the end of this column until the fall. I’m looking forward to seeing all of you at the page again at that time. Have a great summer, stay cool and healthy, and thank you for supporting tennis in Citrus County.

Citrus Area Senior Ladies 3.0-3.5 Tuesday League

Just a reminder that you need only four players to form a team for this league. With all the ladies we have playing tennis in Citrus County, it should be possible to add a couple of teams to this league.

To play in this league, a player must be at least 50 years of age or better, with a 3.0 to 3.5 rating. The league is always looking for players to sub for teams. If you are interested in subbing, please contact chairperson Laura Rustin.

Nature Coast 3.0 Ladies League

The final standings were as follows: Champions with 57 points were the Skyview Wonders; Le Grone MsHits, 39; Sugarmill Rockets, 37; Skyview Blues, 33; Riverhaven Double Trouble, 20. The Skyview Wonders team was captained by Ann Marie Simonelli, co-captain Joanie Kelsey and the other team members were Maribel Mena, Kathy Lockhart, Erika Hawn, Nancy Wallace and Shelley Ennett. Congratulations ladies!

The league is for players 55 years and over with a rating of up to 3.0. Every match will consist of two sets, in case of a tie the match will be decided by a 10-point Coman tie-break. Each set won means a point for the team. There is a universal sub list which means that players on this list can sub for any given team. If you are interested in playing or subbing in this league, please contact the new chairperson for the 2019-20 season Nancy Bruins at or call 352-628-4370.

Their next season will start on Oct. 7. All new players are encouraged to sign up over the summer and new teams are also invited.
