Citrus girls cross country states

The Citrus girls cross country team at the FHSAA State Championships at Apalachee Regional Park on Saturday in Tallahassee.

In Saturday morning’s Class 2A FHSAA State Championships at Apalachee Regional Park in Tallahassee, the Citrus girls ended up in 19th place with a team score of 488.

"We went in wanting to get top 15, we got 19th, but it’s nothing to be disappointed about," Citrus girls coach Roselle Lattin said. "It was a pretty competitive race. All in all, the girls did run very well. … We had a great season. It was a great way to end it."

Mackenzie Scordato led the Hurricanes, the sophomore taking 31st place in a time of 19:40.09.

"She didn’t have the performance she wanted," Lattin said. "She ran solid. It’s pretty much what she’s been averaging throughout the season. Halfway through she cramped up a little bit, that slowed down her pace. Once she got over the cramping she was able to finish strong."

Taylor Koon shaved 35 seconds off her personal best for a 48th-place 20:06.41. Carleigh Steel also had a personal record with a 130th-place 21:49.41. Kendall Gibson was 158th (22:21.71) and Kaley Kjos took 175th (22:47.90).

Though they did not count toward the team score, Morgan Sowell (204th, 24:59.30) and Aubrey Mueller (207th, 25:07.27) ran PRs, as well.

Lecanto senior Chase Wilson ran in the 3A boys race and ended up in 57th with a time of 17:03.55.
