The Citrus girls cross country team qualified for states for the fourth straight year on Saturday, finishing fourth overall with a 158 team score in the Region 2A-2 meet at the Oaks Equestrian Center in Lake City.

The top eight teams and top 15 runners advanced to the state meet next Saturday at Apalachee Regional Park in Tallahassee.

"We’re super excited. The girls had a great performance," Citrus girls coach Roselle Lattin said. "Mackenze placing third is exceptional considering she was ranked eighth coming in. That’s her personal record. She had a great finish.

"We’re ecstatic with the results and the way the girls performed. It’s a difficult course, but the weather definitely helped."

The Crystal River girls were 20th (556), with Jordan Martynowski posting the Pirates’ fastest time with a 99th-place 24:37.1.

In the boys race, Citrus was 12th (358), led by Thomas Tyler (40th, 17:50.7), and Crystal River placed 18th (466), with Cody Thompson finishing 19th (17:08.8).

Lecanto’s boys ran in the 3A-1 race at the same venue and combined for a 14th-place 392, however Chase Wilson qualified for states by crossing the finish line in 12th place with a time of 16:56.6.
