Say no to smaller meals
I’m responding to (the Jan. 15) Sound Off, “Offer smaller meals and we might give a better tip.” Really? You have got to be kidding me. That’s so ludicrous. If I go to a restaurant and they give me a smaller meal, I will not go to that restaurant anymore. As for you saying the food’s getting thrown out and it’s disgusting? That’s the way it is. If you feel that your food portion is too big when you order your food, why don’t you tell them, “Give me half the portion of the food,” but then you’re still going to pay regular price? I don’t think so. It’s not going to happen. So why don’t you open your mouth first and say, “Give me half the plate that I’m supposed to have.” Just do it. I would love to see you do that, but it’s not going to happen.
Where’s the school?
I have a question. I just read a Sound Off (Jan. 19) about “Continue ticketing in school zones,” about police pulling over speeders, seatbelt nonusers and cellphone users. It says it’s down by Tire Kingdom and the person just came from RaceTrac gas station on State Road 44. Well, in Inverness there’s a RaceTrac and a Tire Kingdom near that and I don’t know of any school there. And in Crystal River, at the other end of (S.R.) 44, there’s a RaceTrac and a Tire Kingdom and that’s next to (a bar) where I go once in a blue moon when I drive over from Inverness. I don’t know of any school there. I know there’s Copeland Park, but where is there a school on the highway there where there’d be a school zone in either one of these two places? Sure glad I don’t go by in the daytime there, because maybe I’d get a ticket for going 40 in a 30. I don’t know, what’s the school zone speed? And she said something about giving people tickets for not wearing a seatbelt because they were going slow. Well, right above it, you said there were people speeding and now you say people are going slow, so that’s confusing. And cellphone people should definitely get tickets, at the very least. Where the heck’s the school by either one of these places?
You were there at the wrong time
I’m calling about yesterday’s Sound Off, Sunday, Jan. 19 (Page C4), wherein a caller said he doesn’t think, or she doesn’t think, that a traffic signal is needed at State Road 200 and (County Road) 491. I disagree because the person said they were there at 9 o’clock in the morning on a Thursday. Typically, people go to work or have to be at work at 8 a.m. or 9 a.m. So, granted, there’s not going to be any traffic, or much traffic, at 9 o’clock. Try on Mondays and Fridays at 7:30 or perhaps 8 o’clock, 8:30. There’s a significant amount of traffic both ways. No criticism here, just fact. Let’s save lives instead of waiting for someone to be killed.
Intersection crowded at 7 a.m.
I’m calling about the person that called in on the (C.R.) 491 and (S.R.) 200 people that were sitting there for so long to make a left-hand turn. Let me tell you, person — whoever you are — let me tell you, at 7 or 8 o’clock, go up there when people are going to work and you’ll find out we do need a traffic light there. I don’t know what you’re thinking about. You’re not there at those hours.
Sink your teeth into garbage issue
I was very pleased to see in today, Jan. 20, in the Chronicle that (front-page story), “Commissioners to take look at garbage issue.” I believe they finally got something they can really sink their teeth into.
Landfill stinks and is unsightly
They really need to do something about (the) landfill. It smells so, so bad and it is such an eyesore. It is ridiculous. And it is really gross to have to drive down the road and see garbage and smell it. Come on, county. Let’s get with the program and do something about it.
Cap that well
Well owners: If you want us to conserve water, you can have them cap the well in Crystal River for the biggest beverage company in the world. I don’t hear about you asking them to conserve water.
Happy to not use plastic bags
I’m pleased to see that our local Publix is now encouraging their customers to purchase an attractive shopping bag to carry our groceries in instead of using plastic. These can be used numerous times instead of polluting our lakes, rivers and communities with plastic. Hope you purchase yours. They’re inexpensive.
Does name really matter?
I’m responding to the Sound Offs about is it Sugarmill Woods or Chassahowitzka? Does it really make a difference? Is it that big of a deal where Sugarmill Woods ends? To me, Sugarmill Woods is no different than a development like Black Diamond, Pine Ridge, Beverly Hills, etc. It’s a development. I think you’re making a mountain out of a molehill by saying where does it begin or where does it end. I could care less. It doesn’t make a difference where it begins or where does it start. These Sound Offs are really getting ridiculous.
