There are costs involved in a hurricane that are not physically related to the storm. That is the evacuation of your area for several days before, during and after the actual storm on your drive back home.

It is always advisable to leave your home area days before the storm is scheduled to hit. Don’t leave on your return too soon, as there will be traffic bogged down for days bumper-to-bumper. You may even find it difficult finding motel rooms available.

It is a good idea to take extra cash before the start of your trip because ATMs have been known to run out of cash.

Also, it is a good idea to keep maps on hand of various evacuation routes.
