I am writing to bring up a point about the new impact fees.

First, I have no clue how many of the newcomers have school-age children — most I have been meeting are retired, so jumping on a multi-million dollar expansion of the schools may not be needed, but a dream.

Second, I have seen many homes that were in the $150,000 to $200,000 sell in the $450,000 to $500,000 range, meaning the people purchasing will be paying almost three times the rate of the old owners. A very large amount of the folks moving here are snowbirds, and bringing up the tax base hugely and they are not allowed the homestead.

I think before the impact fee is raised the people in charge should have checked out the numbers. This county is in great condition and you will have the money if not wasted on pet projects. I would be willing to sit down with anyone who wants to help figure out the needs. I have been on many committees in my lifetime and find scaring people equals more taxes. Let's not ruin this wonderful county.
