Please extend my thanks to the entire editorial board for bestowing the honor of Citrus County Citizen of the Year for 2020. It was a total surprise to me! I thought it was one the spotlight articles the Chronicle publishes. I realize what an honor this is when I look at the citizens through the years who have been awarded the honor. It is truly humbling and I again thank you.
When I moved here in 1984 from New England, I could not have envisioned what was in store for me. I did know that Citrus County was a beautiful area with so many natural amenities. I had never seen a manatee or even knew of manatees! I should have read more National Geographic magazines. The Crystal River was indeed crystal clear as its name says. We are working on getting it back to the way it was. Besides the natural beauty of the county, I came to meet truly wonderful people with an intense community spirit. It is very personally fulfilling to work with other citizens for the betterment of our community.
The first time I was asked if I was going to move once I retired, I was taken aback. What! Why would I want to move! Now I have more time, post pandemic, to enjoy the beauty and nature of our county.
Thank you and I will definitely continue to serve with pleasure.
