Save Our Waters Week photo contest

A magnificent sunset and glistening coastal waters framed by the silhouettes of a young boy and girl displaying their love for the Nature Coast won honorable mention in the Save Our Waters Week annual photo contest for Leanne Honaker of Citrus Springs.

I have lived in Citrus County for 32 years and have worked and played on many of its waters, including the springs, rivers, bays, and the Gulf of Mexico, swimming, boating, and scalloping.

While working as the Wildlife Biologist for Crystal River National Wildlife Refuge Complex, I have collected water samples for Florida LakeWatch for almost 30 years. These samples are analyzed for nitrogen, phosphorus, and chlorophyll a (or the algae content in the water).
