YMCA/Joe Meek Award

Crystal River Mayor Joe Meek is recognized by the YMCA during a July 8 City Council meeting for his service and role in securing funding for the construction of the YMCA's facility in Lecanto, among other things. Members of the YMCA of Citrus County's board on Monday recognized Crystal River Mayor Joe Meek for his service.

Meek volunteered with the YMCA's advisory board for six years and helped raise the funds necessary to build the facility in Lecanto.

He also has volunteered for years as an active youth basketball coach for the YMCA league.

Presenting the recognition to the mayor at the weekly city council meeting were Joanna Castle, VP of the YMCA; Don Taylor, chairman of the board development committee; and Gerry Mulligan, YMCA board member.

There are now 12,000 members at the Citrus Memorial Health Foundation YMCA.
