Wildlife park honors Veterans

Homosassa Springs Wildlife State Park will host several opportunities to honor veterans on Veterans Day, Monday, November 11.

Homosassa Springs Wildlife State Park will host several opportunities to honor veterans on Veterans Day, Monday, Nov. 11. From 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Carla Nicklas and other volunteers will have thank-you cards available for visitors to sign for several local veterans. Volunteers will also be collecting products for the Mission in Citrus Homeless Veterans Shelter in Inverness. Items needed include food items, cleaning supplies, paper products, and personal care items. The supplies may be delivered prior to the event Monday through Friday between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. to the park’s administration office.

All invited to Veteran’s Salute Concert

The Dunnellon Community Chorale will present its annual Veteran’s Salute Concert at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 10, at the Dunnellon Presbyterian Church, 20641 Chestnut St. The concert features the American Legion Post No. 58 Color Guard and a special commemoration of the 75th anniversary of D-Day with words by Dwight D. Eisenhower and music from 1944. In a tribute to the USO, the chorale will feature member soloists and performances by the NCCB Saxophone Quartet, as well as traditional patriotic standards. Concert is free with offerings accepted.

German American Club meets

The German American Club of West Central Florida will meet from 4 to 6:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 11, at the Knights of Columbus Hall at 2389 W. Norvell Bryant Highway, Lecanto. Stay updated on driving education

Florida is a mandated state and any insurance company doing business in Florida must give a discount to those completing an AARP Smart Driver Course, open to all aged 50 and older. Contact your agent for discount amounts. Update yourself to earn a discount and get newly enacted motor vehicle and traffic laws. Course fee is $15 for AARP members and $20 for all others.

Genealogical Society meets Nov. 12

Lynn Palermo will present webinar “Getting Ready to Write” from 10 a.m. to noon Tuesday, Nov. 12, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 3474 W. Southern St., Lecanto. Learn about writing family history. This presentation will help to organize ideas and research and outline first stories. Christian Women’s club sets luncheon

The Crystal River Christian Women’s Club invites all ladies to a fall luncheon  at 11:45 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 12, at the Key Training Conference Center, 5325 W. Safari Lane, Lecanto. Caregiver Appreciation Month meeting

In honor of National Caregiver Appreciation Month, the Citrus County Central Ridge Public Library will host a caregiver learning event with a panel of experts 10 to 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 14, at 425 Roosevelt Blvd., Beverly Hills. Experts will discuss the resources their companies provide to caregivers, and open the floor for questions. The event is free and all are welcome. To register and reserve seats, call 352-746-6622.

Public invited to MOAA patriotic event

The Military Officers Association of America (MOAA) Citrus County Chapter will sponsor a patriotic event in conjunction with Grand Living at Citrus Hills at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 14, at 850 W. Norvell Bryant Highway, Hernando. The “Oldies But Goodies” adult choir, now in its 12th season and directed by choirmaster Debi Shields, will provide a program of patriotic songs as a salute to Citrus County veterans. Pressure cooking class slated

The UF/IFAS Citrus County extension for pressure cooking will hold a class 5:30-7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 14, at 3650 W. Sovereign Path, Lecanto. This hands-on electric pressure cooking class will cover different pressure cooker models, appliance features, safety tips and additional equipment that can be purchased. Participants will complete a recipe in an electric pressure cooker and enjoy a meal together. The cost for the workshop is $15 and pre-registration is required before Nov. 7 as class is limited to 12 participants. For information or to register, contact Stephanie at 352-527-5700.
