According to the Florida Highway Patrol a motorist in her 80s will be cited for careless driving following the two-vehicle accident Friday morning that required two women to be transported to the hospital.

Trooper M. Whitsel said Nancy Curtin, 83, of Floral City, driving a 2012 Buick, was following behind the 2014 F-150 pick-up truck of Jackie Duprez of Spring Hill. Both vehicles were traveling northbound on South Pleasant Grove Road around 10 a.m. as Duprez slowed his truck to turn right into the Plaza West, located several miles south of Inverness.

Curtin failed to avoid Duprez' decelerating truck that was turning right into the plaza's parking lot. In an effort to avoid a collision with the truck, Curtin veered to the right and side-swiped the truck on the truck's passenger side, sending it into a ditch on the east side of the road about 100 feet north of the intersection of East Arbor Street and South Pleasant Grove Road, the trooper said.

Following the collision the automobile continued through the ditch, eventually careening up and out of it coming to rest in a vacant parking area in the plaza. The car sustained heavy damage to the front end and all airbags were deployed.

The driver and passenger of the car were transported by Nature Coast EMS to Brooksville Regional Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
