First responders airlifted a Beverly Hills man for treatment, and hospitalized two other Citrus County motorists after a pair of pickup trucks collided almost head on.
Prior to the 4:33 p.m. crash from Tuesday, March 15, the 48-year-old man was driving a green Chevrolet Silverado 1500 east on West Grover Cleveland Boulevard, west of the intersection with South Peasant Point, according to Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) on Friday.
At the same time, a 28-year-old Homosassa man was driving a green Ford Ranger west on Grover Cleveland Boulevard, approaching the same area.
According to FHP, the Chevrolet’s driver reached to his 10-year-old son sitting in the backseat to hand him back a cellphone, allowing his truck to drift into the westbound lane and strike the front left of the oncoming Ford.

A helicopter crew flew the Chevrolet’s driver to Ocala Regional Medical Center to be treated for “incapacitating” injuries, according to FHP. His son suffered “possible” injuries, but wasn’t taken to hospital by first responders.
Citrus County Fire Rescue ambulances took the Ford’s driver and his passenger, a 22-year-old Homosassa woman, to HCA Florida Bayonet Point Hospital and Bravera Health ER Citrus Hills, respectively, for their incapacitating injuries, according to FHP.
FHP troopers cited the Chevrolet’s driver for failing to drive in a single lane. Troopers also ticketed the Ford’s driver for driving without a license and for driving without a seat belt, and also cited his passenger for traveling without a seat belt.
