Two Crystal River residents were arrested Wednesday in relation to what the sheriff’s office said was a Central Florida smash-and-grab vehicle burglary string.

Bryce Levi Coviello, 31 and Christina Piedra, 36, were charged with multiple counts of illegal use of a credit card. Coviello is also charged with two counts of  burglary of a conveyance.

A post on the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page states the investigation started Sept. 2 when the pair smashed the window of a vehicle parked at Fort Cooper State Park in Inverness and stole a woman’s purse. Within minutes, the report states, the pair started using stolen credit cards at local gas stations and Walmart.

Investigators linked the crime to several similar others in Citrus County and Central Florida, the report states.

Coviello and Piedra were arrested after a traffic stop and are being held in the county jail.

In all, the pair is responsible for 10 burglaries in Citrus County during September, the report states. Additional charges are expected from other counties, it said.
