There were some anxious moments Tuesday when a driver accidentally jumped a curb in the parking lot and hit the side of Dan’s Clam Stand.
Nobody was hurt, but there was a large dent in the wooden frame of the building. Fortunately, nobody had been seated on the other side where the wall had crushed in, said restaurant owner Dan Cyr.
Citrus County Fire Rescue workers roped off the area and a county inspector later allowed the restaurant to remain open, Cyr said.
The incident happened around lunchtime so the place was busy. Everyone was going about their business when it happened. Afterward, the restaurant stayed busy as diners came and left.
“It was a loud crash,” Cyr said. “I didn’t know what happened. It sounded like an explosion.”
Ronald Gillman, driver of the pickup that hit the building, said he pulled up to the side of the building on North Sunshine Path and State Road 44 in Crystal River and his foot went off the brake, sending the vehicle crashing into the wall.
