A woman driving a three-wheeled motorcycle on West Grover Cleveland Boulevard at about 2:30 p.m. Friday was rushed to an area hospital after she was thrown about 20 feet after she collided with a car. The driver of the car abandoned his vehicle at a nearby CVS drug store and fled on foot.
A Florida Highway Patrol trooper investigating the accident near the intersection with U.S. 19 in Homosassa would not reveal the identity of the woman. Friday afternoon Citrus County Sheriff’s deputies were still looking for the driver.
Witness Thomas Fenster of Hudson told the Chronicle that the driver of the car was headed east on Grover Cleveland Boulevard. The driver of the motorcycle was heading west and stopped to turn onto Pittsburgh Avenue.
Fenster said that when she began to turn the driver of the silver Volkswagen sedan “sideswiped her.”
Before hitting her, “he swerved around traffic and slams into her and keeps going,” Fenster said.
“He hit her hard, real hard. She flew 20 feet,” he said.
The driver’s car was seen parked at an CVS parking lot with damage to the driver’s side front door.
After the impact, the motorcycle was thrown into a school bus with children onboard but there was no damage to the school bus and no children were injured, the trooper told the Chronicle.
