If the Inverness City Council didn’t get the message that many in the community don’t want the turnpike extending through Citrus County, in general, and near Inverness, specifically, they got it again Tuesday when about 40 people and members of environmental groups bashed the ongoing study to extend the corridor.

Florida Turnpike officials had given the council a presentation earlier this month of four potential routes, two of which came near Inverness. The council agreed at that public meeting that it would wait until May to give the state agency its thoughts on the potential routes and concerns.
