Captain Stacy Dunn of Manatees in Paradise cautions that cooling temperatures have brought manatees from the Gulf into the Crystal River and King’s Bay. “Many manatees have traveled a long way and are covered in barnacles and need rest. Just because sanctuaries aren’t up we still need to be good stewards and keep them safe,” she wrote, noting that idle and slow speeds are now required in the bay. If anyone sees an injured or dead manatee, call the Florida Fish and Wildlife Service’s Wildlife Alert Reward Program at 888-404-FWCC (3922). Captain Dunn photographed these manatees in Three Sisters Springs on Thursday.
