Citrus County Sheriff’s deputies responded Monday afternoon to a shooting at the 5000 block of East Live Oak Lane in Inverness.
A man was shot in the leg and a suspect was apprehended, the sheriff’s office said.
“We have a person of interest detained and there is no active threat to public safety at this time,” sheriff’s Sgt. Lee Carey said in an email.
The victim was identified by sheriff's officials as Tyler Miller, 18. His medical condition was unknown but the injuries were not life threatening, officials said.
The suspect shot Miller as he drove by, sheriff's spokeswoman Jodi Sanders said. The suspect was not identified.
Both the suspect and victim are familiar with each other, officials said. The incident occurred around 2:30 p.m.
East Live Oak, which intersects with U.S. 41 in north Inverness, was blocked off in front of the home where the shooting occurred as crime scene technicians collected evidence.
Meanwhile, about a half-dozen sheriff’s cars pulled over a car and had someone detained less than a mile away, on U.S. 41 across from the Inverness Regional Shopping Center.
Note: This story was corrected to say the suspect shot the victim from his car.
