Emergency crews airlifted a 68-year-old man from Tampa for treatment March 11 after his motorcycle drove into the side of a vehicle at a intersection south of Dunnellon's city limits.
According to a Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) report on the 4:58 p.m. collision, which is still under investigation, John Dickey Reese was riding a maroon-colored 1986 Honda Gold Wing south on U.S. 41, approaching the intersection with West Dunnellon Road.
Reese rode through a red light at the intersection, where his motorcycle struck the left side of a white 2016 Jeep Renegade turning north on U.S. 41, FHP’s report states, citing crash witnesses.
FHP’s report shows Reese, who was not wearing a helmet, was airlifted to Ocala Regional Medical Center for incapacitating injuries.
Neither the Jeep’s driver, 25-year-old Isaac Corey Abbott, or its passenger, 31-year-old Elizabeth Ann Blount, both of Ocala, were injured or hospitalized, FHP’s report shows.
FHP does not suspect alcohol or drugs were a factor in the crash.
