An Inverness woman and her passenger were killed Sunday when the vehicle she was driving left an Ocala roadway and struck a tree at a high rate of speed.

According to the Ocala Police Department, 33-year-old Milagros Soto was traveling eastbound along the 2200 block of Northeast State Road 492 at approximately 3:36 a.m. Sunday when the crash occurred. The 2008 Ford Focus she was driving was reportedly straddling both eastbound lanes of the roadway when she corrected to the right, left the roadway completely and struck a large oak tree head-on.

Both Soto and her passenger, 25-year-old Joseph L. Perry, of Ocala, who was the vehicle’s owner, were pronounced dead at the scene. Soto was reportedly not wearing her seatbelt; Perry’s seatbelt was reportedly buckled under and behind him. The posted speed limit on the roadway is 45 mph; authorities did not say how fast the vehicle was traveling at the time of the crash.

It is unknown whether drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash.

Classy. Two people lost their lives and you make a comment like that. What a POS. I agree texting and driving is terrible but have a little bit of respect. God bless their families. To those families, I am sorry for your loss.
