A 23-year-old Inverness woman was seriously injured in a three-vehicle wreck, which killed one person, on Saturday night in Pasco County, according to a Florida Highway Patrol report.
Brittany Jo Rago was a passenger in a 1993 Toyota Supra driven by David Wayne Houston, 31, of New Port Richey. Houston was also seriously hurt in the crash. Both were taken to Bayonet Point.
The report stated Houston was traveling south at approximately 8:20 p.m. in the center lane of Little Road at a high rate of speed.
Phillip Viola, 72, of New Port Richey, was driving 2017 Hyundai Elantra and was making a left turn into the entrance of Regency Square from the northbound left turn lane of Little Road. Patrick Blake Trottman, 51, of Hudson was in his Ford F-150 and was stopped in the eastbound exit to Regency Square, waiting to turn left onto Little Road.
Houston failed to maintain control of his vehicle, the report stated, and collided with the right side of Viola’s Elantra.
Following impact with the Elantra, Houston’s Supra came to final rest in the southbound outside lane of Little Road as the Elantra was redirected southwest and collided with Trottman’s truck.
Following the impact with F-150, Viola’s Elantra rotated counter-clockwise and came to final rest south of the entrance to Regency Square.
Viola, who was transported to an area hospital, later died from injuries sustained during the crash.
Viola’s passenger, Robert Vaughn Ward, 20, of New Port Richey, was seriously hurt and also taken to Bayonet Point.
It was unknown if alcohol was a factor, the report stated, and the crash remains under investigation.
