An Inverness man was charged with three counts of sexual battery on a child and remains in jail with no bond after the victim told police the abuse had gone on for a decade.
The Citrus County Sheriff’s Office arrested Robert Raymond Gattrell, 37, of South Summerwood Point, according to sheriff’s office records. The arrest documents reported that victim was older than 12 but younger than 18 years.
The arrest documents did not identify the victim or Gattell’s relationship with the girl other than to say there was no bond due to the domestic nature of the crime. It also said Gattrell was in “a familial and custodial role during each of the multiple sexual abuse incidents.”
Previously, Gattrell was free on a $10,000 bond from Marion County following an August arrest and charges of lewd and lascivious molestation on a child younger than 12 years old.
According to the Citrus County arrest records, it was the Marion County arrest that spurred the Citrus County victim to tell her mother that Gattrell had sexually abused her for the past 10 years.
During the victim’s interview with investigators, she said the abuse occurred too many times to count, according to the arrest documents.
She told investigators that the latest abuse happened at Gattrell’s home and described the offenses in great detail, according to the report.
The report says that deputies met with Gattrell at his Inverness home and told him about the accusations.
“The defendant did not deny the allegations outright but wished to not speak further about them during the interview,” according to arrest documents. Sherriff’s-office deputies then arrested him.
In August, Marion County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested Gattrell after investigating a complaint that he sexually abused a child under the age of 12 in Silver Springs.
Investigators were told Gattrell was watching a movie with the girl along with other children that he was supposed to be watching and caring for when the abuse occurred.
