New hospice has home-like feel

HPH Hospice facility on West State Road 44

HPH Hospice and its Chapters Health Systems owners have announced on their website that the Lecanto hospice house will reopen.

HPH announced a Sept. 19 reopening event at its 2939 W. State Road 44 location.

HPH Hospice closed its in-house care center in 2016 because of declining admissions. It continued to provide hospice services at patients’ homes, though.

Earlier this year, Chapters Health Systems told the Chronicle it had submitted applications with state regulators to reopen if the market warranted it.

It’s certificate of need application showed that the facility has eight beds.

HPH Hospice did not return Chronicle telephone calls about specifics regarding the reopening, such as when it would reopen or staffing.

On its website, HPH Hospice asked that people interested in attending the 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. reopening event contact HPH and register at citruscelebration@chaptershealth.org or telephone 352-527-4600.

The event will be free to the public and offer food and music.

The Chronicle will provide more information about the reopening at a future date.
