A Floral City woman was charged Friday with DUI manslaughter and vehicular homicide stemming from a late night, February vehicle crash
Florida Highway Patrol troopers arrested Lucinda Rene Sims, 46, according to FHP spokesman Sergeant Steve Gaskins.
The incident that led to the arrest began 10 p.m., Feb. 5 when Sims was driving her 2006 Ford F150 west on County Road 476 in Hernando County, according to investigators FHP Corporal D. Asbell and Trooper D. Helm.
According to the FHP press release, Sims lost control of her vehicle and drove to the south shoulder of the road. Sims over-corrected for the mistake and drove to the north shoulder, at which point the truck rotated, overturned and smashed into several trees.
During the collision, Sims and passenger Ivary Stikes, Jr., 63, of Brooksville, were thrown out of the vehicle, according to the press release. Neither were wearing seatbelts. Both had serious injuries and were taken to hospital.
The second passenger, Sheri Rena Aaron, 43, of Brooksville, died at the crash site east of Daily Road. She was also not wearing her seatbelt.
