A Wednesday night fire destroyed a Lecanto home and injured a firefighter.

Citrus County Fire Rescue (CCFR) crews from five nearby stations were dispatched at 8:35 p.m. to a lot off of West Sanction Road, where a battalion chief first arrived to find a single-wide mobile home 80% involved with flames, according to a CCFR release.

Because of the extent of the blaze, responders took up defensive positions around the building to contain and extinguish the fire, which was reported under control by 8:51 p.m. and left the home uninhabitable.

A firefighter was hospitalized during the response and later released, according to the release and CCFR Chief Craig Stevens.

CCFR called the American Red Cross to help the family with housing assistance, and the State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the fire’s cause.
