A fire destroyed a Dunnellon-area home and killed a pair of dogs inside.

Occupants were able to evacuate their burning doublewide mobile home off North Cedar Cove Road uninjured the night of Sunday, July 25, before Citrus County Fire Rescue (CCFR) crews arrived after responding to the blaze at around 7:40 p.m.

Firefighters first to the scene found the residence 50% involved with flames coming through its roof, according to CCFR.

CCFR units from stations in Hernando, Citrus Springs, Pine Ridge, Connell Heights and the Inverness Highlands controlled the fire, which started in a bedroom, by 8:11 p.m. 

According to CCFR, the house and a vehicle parked in front of the garage were deemed lost. Firefighters also found two dead dogs during searches of the scene.

CCFR contacted the American Red Cross to assist the displaced residents.
