Fire crews from Citrus and Hernando County, and the Forestry Service, are en route to West Chassahowitzka Street and U.S. 19 where an out-of-control brush fire has grown from 5-plus acre to 35 to 40 acres, according to a Citrus County Fire Rescue spokeswoman.

The Forestry Division had two tractors on scene and are launching a helicopter with bucket, said Cortney Marsh, spokeswoman with CCFR.

The fire is 95% contained in both Citrus and Hernando counties, according to the Florida Forest Service.

One southbound lane on U.S. 19 is shut down, Marsh said. Traffic south is flowing slowly, but steadily, according to Chronicle Photo Editor Matthew Beck who was on scene.
