A Crystal River woman was killed Sunday when an alleged drunk driver ran a stop sign at a County Road 491 intersection, authorities said.
Samantha Lynn Martinez, 22, was heading north on C.R. 491 in a 2019 Ford Fusion when she was struck by a 2006 Chevy pickup driven by Carl Anthony Haun, 57, of Inverness, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
Haun was eastbound on C.R. 480 when he failed to stop at the intersection stop sign. The front end of his pickup struck the front end of Martinez’s car, forcing the pickup to roll over and land on the east shoulder of the road, where the Fusion also came to a rest, the FHP report states.
Both drivers were transported to Bayonet Point Regional Medical Center, where Martinez later died. Haun was in serious condition, according to the FHP report.
The report states the 4:30 p.m. accident was alcohol-related on Haun’s part. Martinez was not wearing a seat belt, the report states.
Charges are pending, the report states.
