Early morning heron

With the vast number of rivers, lakes and swamps throughout the Sunshine State, large wading birds like herons are commonly seen stalking prey near the water. This bird rests Friday near the shoreline on the Tsala Apopka Chain of Lakes in Hernando as the sun rises over the tree line to the east. These birds will eat a wide variety of prey including small fish, reptiles and small rodents that frequent the shallows.
