A 54-year-old Dunnellon man died after he lost control of his motorcycle on an Inverness-area road and struck a passing vehicle.
According to Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), which didn’t identify those involved in the 9:41 p.m. collision from Sunday, April 4, the motorcyclist was riding north on North Independence Highway, approaching the intersection with North Florida Avenue.
At the same time, a 32-year-old Inverness woman was driving an SUV south on Independence Highway. When the motorcyclist rode into a curve in the roadway, he lost control, causing his motorbike to overturn and slide into the SUV, according to FHP.
Emergency responders pronounced the man, who was wearing a helmet, dead at the crash scene, while the woman did not suffer any injuries.
