CR planning board delays vote on project
Crystal River’s planning commission agreed to delay voting for variances on a proposed boutique hotel on a vacant, waterfront property along U.S. 19.
In a unanimous decision at the Thursday evening meeting, the city’s citizen advisory board tabled the variance hearing on the address at 300 S. U.S. 19 for 5:30 p.m. on Nov. 7.
A trust controlled by former major league pitcher Mike Hampton owns the 1.35-acre lot. Partners of Bent Twig Properties entered into a contract with Hampton trust to finalize a development plan for the property in exchange for its purchase.
Bent Twig Properties requested variances to reduce the perimeter’s landscape buffer, decrease the waterfront setback and lower the number of minimum parking spots and their size.
Before they make a vote, planning commissioners said they wanted city staff and the developer to firm up designs for the five-story, 55-unit condo hotel; a 2,450-square-foot restaurant; and a parking lot of at least 75 spaces.
