Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis named Charles Helm to be the third judge for Citrus County. DeSantis made the announcement Thursday, Sept. 16, filling the county judgeship state legislators created and funded earlier in 2021, according to the governor’s website.
Helm had been an assistant U.S. attorney out of Ocala since March, after prosecuting as an assistant state attorney for the Fifth Judicial Circuit of Florida, which covers Citrus and four neighboring counties. Helm received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Florida, and his law degree from Liberty University. Prior to going to law school, Helm served as a police officer.
