A 37-year-old Dunnellon man was struck and killed Sunday morning while traveling westbound on West Dunnellon Road (County Road 488), according to a Florida Highway Patrol report.
Michael Todd Gilkerson was traveling on a bicycle when a Toyota truck struck him, propelling Gilkerson to the north grass shoulder. He suffered fatal injuries at the scene of the crash, the FHP reported. The wreck was reported at 7:20 a.m.
The driver of the Toyota, however, fled the scene of the crash. Officials believed the crash occurred late Saturday, the report stated. Following information received via a tip, FHP Troopers located the suspect vehicle regarding this case. Troopers continue to investigate the fatal crash incident.

Join BOCC, Veterans Coalition for passing of the keys
Citrus County will officially pass the keys of the Inverness Community Center at 1082 N. Paul Drive, Inverness to the Citrus County Veterans Coalition at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 11. The public is invited to join the Commissioners and members of the Veterans Coalition for a photo opportunity recognizing the transition of the property.
The veterans will be using the Paul Drive property for storage of donations and a foodbank for veterans in Citrus County. “We feed over 110 veterans each Tuesday and Thursday,” said Veterans Coalition Vice-President Mike O’Brien. “We will use this additional building for wheelchairs, scooters and other adaptive equipment that the community generously donates along with giving us space for additional freezers and refrigerators. The veterans organization owns property adjacent to the community center building.

Shrimpapalooza will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, March 14, at the Homosassa Civic Association Grounds, 5330 S. Mason Creek Road, Homosassa. This fest will offer seafood and non-seafoods, beer and live entertainment. This event is family and pet friendly. A parade will begin at 10 a.m. running from the Old Mill Tavern to the elementary school across from the festival.
