Wawa fans, mark May 16 on your calendars.
That’s the day the Pennsylvania-based chain is set to open its first Citrus County location at the southeast corner of County Roads 486 and 491.
The doors open at 8 a.m. and a ribbon-cutting is planned for 9 a.m.
Wawa spokeswoman Lori Bruce said Citrus County was a desirable location for the chain and fits in with the company’s overall expansion into this part of Florida.
“It’s just been a wonderful experience to bring the Wawa brand to new locations like Citrus County,” Bruce said. "(We) think this is a great area.”
The 24-7 store will open with 30 to 40 employees and will look similar inside and out to others in the chain.
Nationwide, Wawa has more than 800 stores, and more than 175 in Florida.
A second Wawa will be built in Crystal River at the northeastern corner of the intersection of U.S. 19 and State Road 44, but that project is still in the land-clearing stage.
Bruce said no timetable has been set for the opening of that second site.
