Vehicle fire spreads to home

A vehicle fire spread to a Beverly Hills home early Thursday morning, destroying several vehicles and much of the residence.

Firefighters with Citrus County Fire Rescue were dispatched at 1:07 a.m. to 25 N. Melbourne St., where crews from the Pine Ridge Station arrived at 1:14 a.m. to find three vehicles on fire within a few feet of the house, which was already partly on fire, according to a fire rescue report.

Fire had already spread through the eves and into the attic. Crews put out fires in the vehicles and home, which had 50 percent structural damage and lost half of its contents in the fire, which started in one of the vehicles, the report states.

While the home’s smoke detectors weren’t working, occupants were able to escape in time. No injuries were reported. The American Red Cross was called to assist the residents.

Crews from Pine Ridge, Citrus Springs, Hernando, Connell Heights and Kensington responded to the fire.
