Coronavirus Close-Up Dominant

Citrus County officially broke the mark of over 1,000 total recorded COVID-19 cases this past week.

In its Monday, July 27, 2020, coronavirus update, the Florida Department of Health reported a total 1,102 cases for Citrus County, a 28.8% jump from the 855 cases document a week earlier on July 20.

From July 13 to July 20, the county witnessed a case increase of 48.2%, which surpassed the 44.6% rise in cases a week beforehand.

Three more residents died from the virus since July 20, putting the current death count at 20.

Hospitalizations went from 83 to 99 between July 20 and 27, an increase of 19.2% compared to the 33.9% rise in hospital visits from July 13 to July 20.

According to CoreCivic, the Citrus County Detention Facility's management, and County Administrator Randy Oliver on July 27, there has been no change in cases within jail staff and inmate populations since July 20. 

At 78.4% and 50%, 34461, 34442 and 34446 reported the highest surge in cases since last week.

Here are the number of COVID-19 cases ranked by Citrus County’s 15 zip codes: 

  • 34452 (Inverness, Floral City, Inverness Highlands North and Inverness Highlands South): 271, an increase of 33 (13.8% increase) since July 20.
  • 34429: (Crystal River, Ozello, Homosassa Springs, Lecanto and Black Diamond): 89, an increase of 11 (14.1%).
  • 34428 (Crystal River, Red Level and Inglis): 85, an increase of 18 (26.8%).
  • 34446 (Homosassa, Homosassa Springs, Lecanto and Sugarmill Woods): 99, an increase of 33 (50%).
  • 34465 (Beverly Hills, Black Diamond, Citrus Springs, Lecanto and Pine Ridge): 84, an increase of 19 (29.2%).
  • 34453 (Inverness, Citrus Hills, Hernando, Inverness Highlands North and Lecanto): 68, an increase of 16 (30.7%).
  • 34461 (Black Diamond, Citrus Hills, Homosassa Springs, Lecanto, Pine Ridge and Sugarmill Woods): 91, an increase of 40 (78.4%).
  • 34442 (Citrus Hills, Citrus Springs, Hernando, Lecanto and Pine Ridge): 72, an increase of 24 (50%).
  • 34448 (Homosassa, Homosassa Springs, Sugarmill Woods, Lecanto and Crystal River): 58, an increase of 11 (23.4%).
  • 34434 (Dunnellon, Citrus Springs, Hernando and Pine Ridge): 60, an increase of 14 (30.4%).
  • 34450 (Inverness and Inverness Highlands South): 50, an increase of 10 (25%).
  • 34433 (Dunnellon, Citrus Springs and Pine Ridge): 40, an increase of 10 (33.3%).
  • 34436 (Floral City): 24, an increase of 6 (33.3%).
