Chamber treats first responders to lunch

Some of the hundreds of firefighters, law enforcement personnel, emergency medical services workers and front-line nurses take part in the annual First Responders and Frontline Nurses Appreciation barbecue Tuesday, May 18, at the Depot District in Inverness. Josh Wooten, president and CEO of the Citrus County Chamber of Commerce, the organization that hosted the event, said of the many unsung heroes, "They serve us all year long, especially during this difficult time, and we take one day to specifically serve them." He added, "It touches all of our hearts to do so." Leon McClellan of M&B Dairy provided services preparing all of the ribs, pulled pork and chicken that was served along side of baked beans, coleslaw, potato salad and other fixing provided by many community sponsors that made the event possible, Wooten said. The event has been a staple in Citrus County for more than two decades and this year marked the first where front-line nurses have been invited for their life-saving efforts.
